A Day at Star Wars: The Power of Costume Exhibit

The Force Awakens costumes

As a late birthday present I got to go to the Star Wars: The Power of Costume exhibit with some friends. I already knew I was going to love the exhibit (I mean clothes and Star Wars is a clear win-win situation), but it was even better than I imagined. Not only do you get to see the costumes up close, but there is a lot of information about how they were made and the inspiration behind them. There's the simple approach of Han Solo's costume with the inspiration coming from cowboys of the west, to the whole progression of Padme's and Palpatine's style.

There are many fabric samples to touch, buttons to press, and quizzes to take throughout the exhibit as well. Even my non-Star Wars loving friend enjoyed it. It's self guided so it's up to you whether you want to take your time looking at all the sketches and reading up on everything, or just get excited about all of the droids, weapons, and uniforms you get to see. Either way, if you you're a Star Wars fan try to make it over to the Discovery Times Square, or look out for it when the exhibit goes on tour later this year. In the mean time you can enjoy some of the photos I took below.

Once Upon a December

Last year, I was quite disappointed I didn't plan ahead and buy tickets to see The Nutcracker ballet around Christmas time, so this time around my roommate and I made sure we had tickets when they were on sale. I love going to Lincoln Center, and out in the city in general, because it's an excuse to get all dressed up. I broke out this long sleeved dress and though it was comfy I think the fit could've been better if it was in a more cotton or jersey-like fabric. I was forced into boots because it was raining all day, but I can't really complain because I love my chelsea boots and they kept my feet from hurting with all the walking.

I danced back in school for ten years so the thought of going to see the New York City Ballet left me bouncing like a little kid from excitement the entire day. The show was equal parts fun, impressive, and cute. I see why it's a holiday tradition for many people, and I've been converted into one of those people who say you have to go see it at least once. It was a very magical night.

A Bit of Fall in the City

A lot of my trips to the city this semester have been for school projects and I'm usually alone, leaving me with now outfit pictures, so I decided to share some pictures of Fall and some from Halloween night. I promise I'll return with regular posts soon.
Until then, enjoy!

I went to The Brooklyn Night Bazaar on Halloween (like a harvest fest, only indoors) I had a lot of fun dancing and messing around. Any place where I can dance to hits from the 80's and 90's, play arcade games, and eat pie gets a thumbs up from me.

End Where You Begin

Hello! It's almost the end of my first year at college, and it's kinda blowing my mind that it's gone by so fast. For our last trip to the city my roommates and I went to The High Line, one of the first places I went since moving in. It was nice to just take some time before exams and just sit around, read, and enjoy being in the city. I just went for a playful and relaxed outfit with a loose top and my Starry Night socks.
I feel like I've learned a lot about myself and what I want to do just from being less stressed then I was in high school. With all of this new discovery one thing I am still sure of is how much I love the city. I'm going to miss it so much after returning from Rome even though I'll be back in my own bed. Now I'm just rounding out my finals and then packing to send things home and to go Rome. A bit hectic, but the year has left me happy and excited for the future. That's the best thing I could ask for.

This kid got pretty excited about the view and ran into my shot, it was pretty cute though.

Birthday

Hello! Last weekend I had my birthday, so I treated myself to a trip to the Guggenheim Museum and a walk through central park with some friends.

The museum was like no other I've been to. The architecture of the place is one of the most interesting aspects of going, and the openness made it easier to not lose my friends. I practically liked the Carrie Mae Weems exhibit Three decades of Photography and Video. Her views on the topics of modern women and African Americans were very interesting and the way she portrayed it through photography specifically was striking. Go check it out if you can, I enjoyed it a lot.

Quick Take

Hello! Here are a few quick pictures of a day spent in the city about a week ago. I really enjoy easy, calm days like this because they are so far away from where I am now. My spring break, where I was suppose to be productive, ended up with me really sick. So, these pictures are up a little later than I wanted them to be, but I've got a lot of homework and medicine to get to. I'll resurface soon enough. I hope you enjoy your week!
