Fish's Findings: New England Winter

gif from here

It may be that I'm home or because I keep re-watching Gilmore Girls or due to the snow (more like ice) we had recently, but I am seriously feeling the New England winter vibes. So here's a cozy, wintery inspiration post for you.
I need some coffee

Snowmen and Red Lipstick

Merry Christmas! I've been getting in to the holiday spirit this week baking a ton of cookies and getting in some obligatory red lips. It's so warm right now I can't believe it! I can't remember I time I wore a tee shirt for Christmas Eve. I had to really dig around for this one, and I have no idea where it came from.
I hope you all have a merry Christmas if you're celebrating and a wonderful end of the year.

The Awakening

I finally saw Star Wars: The Force Awakens this past Sunday. I would have loved to have gone to the midnight showing, but it was a must we went as a unit so it turned out to be a family affair on Sunday morning instead.
I've touched on it before, but my family seriously bonds through movies. Frequently I'll find myself reminded of a movie, but have no actual knowledge of the plot or title because I watched it at such a young age. My parents definitely didn't skip out on the Star Wars education either. I loved watching all the VHS tapes of the original trilogy. It's a bit mind blowing to think the films started when they were toddlers and now they're watching it with their now grown children. Whatever happens in the series and people opinion of it, that alone is awesome.
I've been loving this J. Crew jacket all season and it works well as a second jacket when it's cold. It also is soft enough to just wear as a shirt. Just tie on a scarf or some unique pins or patches and you're all set.

May the force be with you,
xx Jasmine

A Day at the Farm

Before we really dive into winter weather, here's a look back at a very fall day. I took my California-native friends to experience the fun of farms in the fall (to be fair they do have farms in CA, but I figured I'd pretend I was introducing them to something new and spectacular.) We hit all the classics: hay ride, pumpkin picking, corn maze, etc. I felt like a kid at home again, plus who doesn't have fun getting lost in a corn maze with your friends?
This outfit was a way to wear my lovely wrap dress in a warmer way. I have fallen in love with the wrap dress style, really who hasn't, and the emergence of 70s again has just made it even more awesome. Hopefully it'll make another appearance when spring and summer comes around, but before that there are some wintery looks to come.

Bye Fall (not really we have until the 21st),

Christmas/Winter Wish List 2015

Christmas/Winter Wish List 2015

Christmas/Winter Wish List 2015 by adayinthelife featuring a turtleneck sweater

It's that time of year again! The time where I dream of sugar plum fairies and TopShop's latest new arrivals. Here's what I'm hoping is under the tree (or on sale at the end of year mark downs):

Topshop petite dress
topshop.com

I love all of these woodland themed prints TopShop has on their website right now. I swear I could live in this dress. Perfectly casual, but also put together.

Turtleneck sweater

I'm on my third re-watching of Gilmore Girls and I'm pretty sure I could recite it at this point. The girls are clearly infiltrating my brain and now I'm lusting after their staple of a white turtleneck (from L.L. Bean no less!) It may not be the most stylish store, not by a long shot, but it's good quality and in a larger size it'll look much more modern. And really how could I comfortable read a book underneath a tree on campus without it?

Zara navy blue pants

So I was lusting after traditional flare jeans, but after some thinking I may want to try a cropped version instead. They're much easier to find than ones that actually have the right length for someone whose 5'2'' and they're much more geared towards a lighter spring wardrobe.

With all the editing I've been doing lately this one just seems like a given. Darn you AP style for not worshiping the oxford comma.

Dr. Martens 1460 Lace Low Boot
drmartens.com

I've been eyeing these Dr. Martens for awhile, but it may be time for them to officially be in my closet. I've lost a bit of my love for knee length boots, and these could really get me through some snowy days.

Like the Docs, I've been eyeing the Mary Lou Manizer for awhile, but when I saw the set I was like 'why not try them all!' A little crazy I'll admit, but they're so glittery and beautiful.

Grace A Memoir
amazon.com

Another long term lust and I think it's about time for me to read this one. I'm taking my last English class this semester so I'll finally be able to hop on my TBR list starting with the wonderful Grace.

Hope your getting into the holiday cheer,
xx Jasmine

C'est Formidable: Stromae and Dressing For Concerts

I really enjoy dressing for concerts. A while back I came across photographer James Mollison's book The Disciples where he photographed fans at gigs who really embodied the look of the artist. After seeing just a few of the photos I fell in love with the idea of dressing to match the artist your seeing. The photos include several replicas of famous outfits, but I'm more drawn to the interpretation where you can see a little bit of the fan in it as well.
I wore this outfit to the Stromae concert at Madison Square Garden in October. Being able to see him live was amazing, and I still can't quite believe it happened. He is incredible and you should check him out even if you don't speak french. I took a lot of my inspiration from his video for Papautai. The dancers are dressed in rather simple outfits that are very colorful.  This whole album was filled with a lot of bold patterns, so that had to make an appearance, and of course you can't forget his signature fun socks. It was a nice surprise to see other fans coming out in patterned socks, bow ties, and cardigans galore.

Au revoir,
xx Jasmine
P.S. I promise these are the last rough, dorm outfit photos. Pictures of NYC to come soon.
