Reintroducing Skirts

In my continually growing love for dresses I sometimes forget about skirts. They always seem to be pushed aside in favor of shorts. There are only a few more weeks left of summer, so upon discovering another skirt in my closet I forgot about, I decided to give it some love. I love how the fraying gives it a more casual look, perfect for summer. Unlike the button up ones, it doesn't transition so well into fall, which is probably why I don't wear it much. Nevertheless, I don't have a summer tank top that doesn't pair well with it.

As for the tank top, I picked it up earlier in the season in one of ThinkGeek's sales. I don't have any Attack on Titan gear and this design is great. The back is so cool and makes me feel just a little tougher than I actually am. I'm looking forward to exploring more of ThinkGeek's apparel.

Favorite Summer Shorts

I can't even tell you how old these shorts are, but I've never gotten the urge to get rid of them. They are basically my perfect summer short. They have a bit of a sailor style, they're high waisted, they're super comfortable, and they break up the inevitable monotony of denim cut-offs. Pieces like this give me hope to try and buy items that I love and will wear for many years. As for my tee, I couldn't resist at least one boob shirt. I opted for this one because it has to be the cutest I've seen and I couldn't pass up a nod to my birthplace.

Now that summer is winding down, most of my time is spent making sure I have everything for school and packing it up (which thankfully is appearing to be much easier this year - I'm actually ahead of schedule!) In between all that, I'm going out with friends for the last time until I see them again at Christmas. It's bittersweet, but in this heat relaxing and having some ice cream is just the right kind of calm fun. In this case, it was a window shopping outing, though I did cave and buy lipstick at Sephora. Bite Beauty's Amuse Bouche lipstick in Thistle is this odd, pale purple I can't wait to wear in the fall.

Though I don't want to give up this warm weather quite yet,

A Freaky Crop Top And A Bright Skirt

Between the heat and all the thunderstorms it's hard to get the energy to actually get dressed. But the other day I was pretty tired of athletic wear 24/7 so I decided to dress up in defiance of the heat. It lasted for a bit, but I ended up in the pool for most of the day, so I think this round goes to the weather.

As for the outfit, I honestly forgot I had this skirt. I'm not quite sure how because it's the only electric blue item in my closet. I decided to give it another go (once I looked through my closet and realized I had it) and paired it with this new crop top. I find this top super fun and therefore great for the summer. The print is super freaky, and may turn some people off, but I just find it funny. A nice reminder to not take things too seriously.

I hope you're not melting in the heat,

Reading in the Rain

The end of July has been rather dreary, but I didn't mind so much. Most of my month was focused on rereading the entire Harry Potter series in preparation for the release of Cursed Child. Despite staying up many late nights (and sometimes until morning) to get some more reading in I've really enjoyed it. Not only did it clear up some details I had forgotten I also have a new appreciation for the series as an adult and lover of writing.

I did manage to tear myself away from reading long enough to grab some coffee with my friend and wear this dress again. I'm pretty sure it is technically a swim cover up, but I've just been wearing it as a dress all month. It's cotton, which is great for this super humid weather and a nice mix of two summer styles. I was drawn to the dress because of the classic stripes and button up style, but the rope belt is a nice touch to make it more beachy.

This is also the first post with my new glasses. I love the new round shape I have. It's super dorky and I'm loving having that bright blue to liven things up.

Enjoy the summer rain,

Why Tevas are My Birkenstocks

When Birkenstocks came back about a year ago, I mostly just watched the trend from afar. Since going to school in the city I can appreciate the desire for a seriously comfortable shoe and don't hate them, but I never really got the urge to snatch up a pair. So when it came to finding a sturdy pair of sandals for this summer I was only partially surprised to end up with these Tevas.

Like many obsessed with Birkenstocks, Tevas were what I wore when I was much younger. I wore them while running around at summer camp for more years than I can count. I don't remember particularly liking them. I think I thought the velcro made me look much younger than I was. Many years later I stumbled upon this pair when I was perusing around Anthropology's site. I didn't realize they were Tevas but once I found out it kind of made sense.

Nostalgia is nice, but this are definitely an upgraded version of the ones I used to wear. They're much more sleek and rather than a violently bright and dizzying pattern like the ones I had many years ago, they're a nice muted blue. I took them out for a true test (a day trip to New York to finally fix my computer) and they held up. They were super comfy and I didn't have to worry about my shoe sliding around like most sandals. Overall they're a good idea if you want to invest in a sandal.

Sometimes the answer is in the past,
