Happy Halloween

My roommate and I were stuck for this Halloween. The Brooklyn Bazaar, which we loved so much last year, lost their space so there was no party this year. Unfortunately for college kids who don't want to spend a lot of money, don't like college parties, and are not 21 (1 more year!) we were out of luck. So instead we had a Halloween day in. We got some Starbucks, ordered Chinese take out, and proceeded to do a bunch of makeup tutorials just for fun while listening to spooky playlists on 8tracks. As girls who don't mind in the least staying in it was a lot of fun. 

I opted to do a half skeleton face and it was so difficult. I used Pollyanne B's tutorial on Youtube and it was pretty easy to follow along, but she is much more skilled than I am. Though it's not perfect, I still think it came out pretty cool. 

Next up was the new Harley Quinn look. This is not my favorite Harley look, but I wanted something pretty easy and light after taking all that black liner off my face (this sheet mask saved my skin afterwards.) I used Pixiwoo's tutorial by Nic and it was really fun and playful makeup to put on. It's not hard to see why it was the costume of the year. 

A Halloween in isn't so bad with coffee, good food, and, of course, Hocus Pocus.

Lipstick From Space: Covergirls Star Wars Collection

Well, long time no write. This school year is starting to feel a lot like my third year in high school; me drowning in work. More likely, three concerts in one week was not a good idea (more on that later.) 

A much brighter spot is my lipsticks from the CoverGirl Star Wars collection finally came in, and I found some time to take some pictures of them. I was super excited about this collaboration when I first heard about it. Though I would have loved to see a wider range, it's not everyday that you get a sci-fi makeup crossover and the metallic lipsticks seemed like a fabulous idea anyway. Plus, it's hard not to lust after everything when you see Pat McGrath's advertisements for the collection. She truly went all out in an otherworldly, shiny, sharp direction and I was totally into it. 

Though I originally was set to pick up the gold color (#40) it looked too much like a Rimmel lipstick I already had, so I took a leap and got the red instead (#30). The risk paid off because this color is pretty awesome. In person the metallic finish is evident and the raspberry tone is filled with gold glitter. Maybe not my everyday look, but for something special or just a unique day this lipstick would be super cool.

The purple lipstick (#50) was the first one to catch my eye when I looked through the products, but I can't help but be a little disappointed. It was super hard to put on because it kept smearing and was patchy. I wore it for the rest of the day and the whole time I was worried it had moved around my face. With a lipliner I think the look can be salvageable, like NYX's Currant or Urban Decay's Venom. Another con is despite its smearing it stains your lips like there's no tomorrow. The color has a very clear redish-pink undertone and that's the color your lips will be for most of the next day (I wasn't able to remove it with a makeup wipe.) I really do love the color despite it not really having a metallic finish, so I may pick up one of the liners to help out, but it may be wise to steer clear of this one.

My Top Ten Favorite Nail Polishes

I've been obsessed with nail polish from about my sophomore year of high school. It may be due to the fact that I had just quit cheerleading where I had to keep polish free nails at all time. Well, the little bit of rebellion has grown into a true love, and I figured if there's anything I could whole heartedly recommend it's my favorite nail polishes. I picked out ones that I have had for many years, but have remained staples, so these are all pretty big, all-time favorites. 

Here's what made it in to my top ten: 

Brand Focus: Shiro Cosmetics

I've been wanting to do a post about Shiro Cosmetics for awhile now, and I'm so excited to have made my first purchase last month. Shiro Cosmetics is all about geeky makeup that is vegan and cruelty free. I've never honed in on whether all of my makeup was vegan or not, but now that it has been a few years of me playing around with makeup and finding out what I like I think it's an appropriate time to start thinking about what type of brands I'm supporting. 

First off, the ideas for each product and their names are great. I love the artwork that's chosen to be on the full size pots and it's all just so cool (to me at least). Not to mention the colors of the month, suggested by fans on Facebook and available for the duration of that month, are a fun addition and are usually quite humorous. My favorite part is that you can choose which individual components of the collection you want and which size you want them to be. This is really handy when you want to get adventurous, but don't want to have a ton of product or to simply try something out before deciding to get the larger size. You can see all three sizes above: the full jar, the mini jar, and the sample. You also get free samples and candy with your purchase which is a huge plus.

This round (because I'm definitely making another purchase) I only got eyeshadows, and even though I am in no way an expert or even really that good at makeup I'll tell you what I think. I was kinda nervous to use them for the first time because I am not used to using loose powders (though they just introduced some pressed shadows) but it did pretty well and I was able to blend away and pack it on for some of the more intense colors. My favorites were the golds I got (Climbing Chaos from the Seven Kingdoms Collection and Farewell, Wherever you Fare from the Hobbit Collection). The shimmer is just right and I'm always a fan of gold. 

I took some quick swatches of the shadows I purchased, but I don't think my camera really does them justice. If you want to check out much more makeup (and better swatches) here's Shiro's site and here's their Facebook to keep up to date about everything.

Valentine Spectrum

I attempted to do this last year, but somehow it just came out wrong, and I couldn't get each nail to be a different color. Thankfully this year I was able to make a better attempt of creating a spectrum from light pink to a deep red. It may have been due to me reaching the point of cabin fever due to being snowed in. I love this so much because it's a little quirky and girly for valentines day, and even if your not spending it with some significant other, then just make the day fun for yourself (even though I'm pretty sure I'm just going to be locked in my house doing homework all day). Hope everyone has a loving and gracious week. =)

Summer Essentials

Hello there! I thought I'd change it up a bit again and do some beauty reviews. Here's my best shot -

1. Rimmel London's The Max mascara 

I feel like I've used this forever!! It is waterproof so it sticks through the pool and beach. It does not add a ton of length but is very voluminousness- which is fine with me because I already have long and full lashes.  

2. Sonia Kashuk Radiant tinted moisturizer in tan  

I hate wearing foundation in the summer. I usually opt to go bare faced. but when I do put on more makeup it's this tinted moisturizer. It's very lightweight, but it stays on throughout the day. 

3. Neutrogena Ultra Sheer body mist sunblock

I can not emphasize enough how important sunscreen is. It doesn't matter how tan you are naturally USE SUNSCREEN.  I like this one because it is light and the spray is very even and easy to work with.  

4. Olay complete moisturizer 

This one isn't strictly directed towards summer, but it does have SPF 15, so if you run out for a quick errand your skin is moisturized and protected. The formula is also geared towards sensitive skin and my skin completely agrees with it. 

5. Burt's Bees chapstick variety tin 

Despite not having sun protection in their formula, I still use this chapstick. The tin comes with all of my favorites- Original beeswax, mango butter, acai berry, and pomegranate oil. 

6. Neutrogena Moisture shine lip soother in Gleam(40) and Glaze (60) 

I don't really like lip products, but this one has stayed around through the years. I don't use them often, but when I do they have amazing color and are never, ever sticky. I wonder why I don't use them that often, but I always return to them in the summer because they have SPF 20.

7. Revlon Cream Blush in Berry Flirtatious(18) 

Last but not least is this cream blush. I have dry skin so the cream doesn't slip off my skin from the heat, and since it is a darker color then I use regularly it goes well with a tan.
